HousePlantResource.com recognizes that all users—both contributors and browsers—have a fundamental right to privacy regarding their online activity. HousePlantResource.com does not take special measures to retain users' traffic or identity data and does not make any stored data available to our partners.
Editors making contributions to HousePlantResource.com should be aware that their contributions include both username and IP-address information which could potentially identify them.
Under FCC blogging guidelines passed in the United States in October 2009, link-stuffing or other concealed compensated endorsements may be (but probably aren't) a federal crime. HousePlantResource.com requests that any editor(s) wishing to commit libel properly cite all claims with off-site sources to make it someone else's problem.
Anonymous edits are publicly identified by the IP address of the person making them. Edits performed by logged-in users are publicly identified by their username instead.
Data Export Policy:HousePlantResource.com does not currently make any data exports generally available. User account data, including email, passwords, and settings, are stored internally only and will not be included under any hypothetical future database exports. User history (publicly viewable edits) are separate and may reasonably be expected to be included with such exports.
Data Stored in HousePlantResource.com's Database: The platform does not store anonymous readers' usage data. Logged-in users' data (including their email address, real name if provided, and settings) are stored on-site. Account passwords are stored only as a one-way hash; we do not keep your password, merely a numeric checksum to verify that the password you provide matches the one used to register. None of this data is visible to users or the general public and is not provided to our partners.
Using the "Email this user" function will expose your email address to the user you are contacting, as it will be listed as the return address on the resulting email.
A user's edit history (whether anonymous or logged in) can reasonably be expected to be stored or reconstructed. Much of this data is publicly available.
Logged-in users' IP addresses and other related information are stored in the database as well. This information expires after three months and can only be accessed by users with CheckUser permission. This information is not shared with third parties and is only used to investigate abuse of the website.
Other Data Stored on the Server: As is common for websites, HousePlantResource.com logs site activity, which identifies IP addresses and browser versions. This data is retained for a period of 16 days and is not visible to anyone without server access.
Cookies:HousePlantResource.com stores session-dependent identifiers with your browser relating to your session ID and database-connection tokens for all users. These expire after several hours. Logged-in users have a unique ID stored for the duration of their visit and (if they explicitly choose to remain permanently logged in) beyond. These cookies are used by HousePlantResource.com's internal software and are not accessible to other sites.
Google Analytics stores a wide array of usage data about visitors. We rely on their assurances that this data is handled responsibly.
HousePlantResource.com carries advertising from various partners but does not share user information with any advertisers.
