The Universal Code of Conduct at HousePlantResource.com provides a baseline of behavior for collaboration across all our projects. Communities can add to this to develop policies considering local and cultural contexts while maintaining these criteria as a minimum standard. This Code of Conduct applies equally to all users without exceptions. Actions that contradict the Universal Code of Conduct can result in sanctions imposed by designated functionaries or by HousePlantResource.com as the legal owner of the platform.

Why We Have a Universal Code of Conduct

We believe in empowering as many people as possible to actively participate in HousePlantResource.com projects and spaces, working towards our vision of a world where everyone can share in the sum of all houseplant knowledge. Our communities should be diverse, inclusive, and accessible, fostering positive, safe, and healthy environments for everyone. We are committed to ensuring this, including by embracing this Code of Conduct and updating it as needed. We also aim to protect our projects against those who might damage or distort the content.

• Be part of a global community that avoids bias and prejudice.
• Strive towards accuracy and verifiability in all their work.

This Universal Code of Conduct defines a minimum set of guidelines for expected and unacceptable behavior. It applies to everyone who interacts and contributes to online and offline HousePlantResource.com projects and spaces, including new and experienced contributors, functionaries, event organizers, participants, employees, and board members. It applies to all projects, technical spaces, in-person and virtual events, as well as the following instances:

• Private, public, and semi-public interactions.
• Discussions of disagreement and expression of solidarity across community members.
• Issues of technical development.
• Aspects of content contribution.
• Cases of representing affiliates/communities with external partners.

Expected Behavior

Every user, whether a new or experienced contributor, community functionary, or staff member, is responsible for their behavior. In all HousePlantResource.com projects, spaces, and events, behavior will be founded on respect, civility, collegiality, solidarity, and good citizenship. This applies to all contributors and participants in their interactions without exceptions based on age, disabilities, appearance, background, social class, sexual orientation, gender identity, or career field.
